Water Works Notices to Public

Customers may experience rusty water on Wednesdays and Thursdays during the flushing hours.

What should you do if you experience rusty water after 7:00 pm on Wednesday and/or Thursday?

1. Run Cold Water: Let the COLD WATER run from all your faucets for several minutes until it clears up. Start with the LOWEST FAUCET IN YOUR HOME (like a basement sink) and work your way up. Usually, the water will clear up after a brief time.

2. Avoid Hot Water: Do not use your hot water until the cold water clears up. Running rusty water through your hot water heater can cause sediment to build up in the heater.

3. Check Before Laundry: If the water is still rusty, avoid doing laundry, especially with light-colored fabrics, to prevent staining.

4. Call Your Water Department: If the water does not clear after running it for several minutes, or if you are concerned, contact us for advice or to report the issue. Call the office at 319-233-5524 or leave a voicemail if calling after hours, emailing the office at office@evansdalewaterworks.org, contact us on our official Facebook page, or stop into the office during business hours of 7:30 am – 4:30 pm, Monday-Friday.
