Storm Water

Storm Water Standing  Committee Formed

Following the requirements of our NPDES permit with the IDNR, the City Council has created a standing committee to review the activities of the staff relating to storm drainage management and to make recommendations to the Planning and Zoning Commission and the City Council from time to time as they see needs to be addressed.  This committee will have two formal meetings each year, though they may meet more often at their own discretion.

If any citizen has concerns about storm water run-off, the condition of our drainage system, or would like to make a suggestion, please contact the Mayor's office at (319) 232-6683 or contact Brian Wirtz (319) 493-0641.

Check the Agendas  or Minutes for meetings information.

Storm Drain Markers

One of the ways the City will be using to increase public awareness of the importance of protecting our rivers, lakes and streams from polluted storm run-off will be installing round metal markers on our curbs and gutters.  This will be done by the Street Department this Spring.

The message on the markers at the drain intakes is simple:  Don't Dump!  Drains flow into River (or Lake.)

Illicit Dumping Detection

It is illegal to dump any solids or liquids into the storm drainage system as the contents dumped into these drains pollute our streams and rivers.

If you see illegal dumping of any kind, please report it.

During the day, call the City offices at (319) 232-6683.  At any time, day or night, you can report illegal dumping at Consolidated Dispatch, (319) 291-2515.  You may also report such instances to Chris Schares at (319) 493-0644.  A log of such reports will be kept and all reports will be investigated promptly.
