MAILBOXES:
Inspect your mailbox to make sure wooden posts are not rotted underground. Also, ensure that your mailbox is securely attached to its pole to withstand the impact of snow from the plows. The trucks must plow at certain speeds in order to keep moving. Though snow removal crews take great care, occasionally mailboxes are damaged in snow removal operations. Usually, if mailboxes are damaged, it is a result of a rotting base or unsecured pole. The City Code of Ordinances states that the City of Evansdale shall not replace or repair mailboxes destroyed or damaged during snow removal operations. Please Click Here for USPS guidelines for mailbox installation.
A NOTE FROM THE POSTAL SERVICE:
“Make sure to keep pathways and stairs clear, as well as all walkways and the approach to your mailbox free from snow and ice. This will prevent injuries and allow postal employees to provide the best possible service, even in the worst weather.”

WHAT IS A SNOW EMERGENCY:
Once snow begins to accumulate during a storm, the Mayor, Public Works Director or his designee will declare a Snow Emergency. This declaration activates parking restrictions on Snow Routes, Citizen notification of impending hazardous travel conditions and implementation of snow removal procedures within the Public Works Division. During the snow emergency no person shall park, abandon or leave unattended any vehicle on Any public street, alley, or City-owned off-street parking area during snow removal operations unless the snow has been removed or plowed from said street, alley or parking area and the snow has ceased to fall. Residents are encouraged to tune in to local media and other communication devices to obtain current storm status. Residents can also call City Hall at 232-6683 during an emergency for up to date information on snow removal efforts.
