FLUSHING NOTICE 10-23-24

We will be flushing even more progressively for the rest of this season, weather permitting. This means that while we will continue to flush every Wednesday, we will also be flushing on Thursdays for the rest of the fall to combat water stagnation. We will pause flushing during freezing conditions.

Flushing will begin about 8:00 am and continue up through 7:00 pm each Wednesday and Thursday.

Although flushing stirs up sediment, it is necessary to cleanse the pipes. While it may not seem like progress, each flush is helping to clear the system and improving water quality.

Customers may experience rusty water on Wednesdays and Thursdays during the flushing hours.

What should you do if you experience rusty water after 7:00 pm on Wednesday and/or Thursday?

1. Run Cold Water: Let the COLD WATER run from all your faucets for several minutes until it clears up. Start with the LOWEST FAUCET IN YOUR HOME (like a basement sink) and work your way up. Usually, the water will clear up after a brief time.

2. Avoid Hot Water: Do not use your hot water until the cold water clears up. Running rusty water through your hot water heater can cause sediment to build up in the heater.

3. Check Before Laundry: If the water is still rusty, avoid doing laundry, especially with light-colored fabrics, to prevent staining.

4. Call Your Water Department: If the water does not clear after running it for several minutes, or if you are concerned, contact us for advice or to report the issue. Call the office at 319-233-5524 or leave a voicemail if calling after hours, emailing the office at office@evansdalewaterworks.org, contact us on our official Facebook page, or stop into the office during business hours of 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday.

INFORMATION UPDATE 07/13/2024

Board Formal Notice to Customers

INFORMATION NOTICE 05/02/24

To the Residents of Evansdale,

Evansdale relies on four wells, each with distinct water chemistry. We've transitioned from operating all four simultaneously to just one, shifting from a total chlorine to a free chlorine system. Consequently, some residents have noticed a chlorine odor in the water. Rest assured your tap water remains safe to drink. We're actively flushing the system on Wednesdays and keeping hydrants open overnight to clear out old water.

The levels are checked daily for the safety of the water. We've taken note of complaints received in person, over the phone, and on social media. Our team is diligently working to resolve these issues and ensure odor-free drinking water for all residents. Please continue to reach out to our Water Works Office to report any concerns, helping us address them promptly.

Thank you,

Water Works Board of Trustees
